Bathtub creaks when standing in it8/2/2023 Sorry the pictures are sideways but I can't figure out how to rotate them. No help.ġ- Is the gold ring attached or glued to the sink? Can it be removed or moved? If so how?Ģ- How do I loosen the stem from the fat nut without moving the underneath nut holding everything from moving?ģ- Who is the manufacturer of the faucet? Tried 10W40 to loosen the stem from the fat nut. Trying to remove stem results in the entire faucet stem and fat nut moving as well as the nut under the sink. Can't get a good grip on the fat nut since the gold ring is in the way. I tried to remove the stem from the sink by trying to hold the fat nut from moving and turning the stem nut (Fig.3). The gold ring seems to be "attached" or glued to the sink so it does not move. Also figured out how to unscrew the silver cover from the gold ring (Fig.2). Finally figured out how to remove the handle (Fig.1). What am I missing? This doesn't seem like rocket science.Ĥ87094871048711įaucet leaks. And the 10 dollar ring was really a no brainer, it was nearly impossible to install that one wrong. What is going on? I can accept that the first time I changed the ring, maybe I didn't do it right, but if it was poor installation I would expect to see water within a day, not completely dry for months, then a leak. No leaks for 3 months, now today its leaking again. Used a plain wax ring, no funnel, extra thick. Americast does not recommend a mortar base under tub. Any ideas I,ve got the plumber returning. Tub has been fastened to studs with head of roofing nail catching flange. A ledger board was used, Sound seems to be comming from slight flexing of tub against studs. So now, I assume the toilet got some kind of microscopic crack. When you stand in it it creaks like crazy. No wetness from the supply line or from the tank. Again, ok for about a week, then we see it leaking. Next changed the wax ring to one of these fancy 10 dollar rings. It was fine for 3 or 4 days, then I see it leaking again. I replaced the wax ring with one which has the 'funnel' built into it. If the molded foam has come loose from the tub, reattach it with construction adhesive and shim the foam up firmly against the tub for the recommended drying time. Look for the presence of a mortar bed and the condition of any plastic foam molded to the bottom of the tub. Then one day we noticed it was leaking from under the bowl. Check the situation under the tub with a work light. I have a powder room toilet which worked fine for 5 years. (The noise is defnitely not the pipes, it is not 'hammer pipes', it is the tub. Should the floorboards have been replaced? I'm just throwing out thoughts here, because I am not at all handy and am at my wit's end with this problem. Don't contractors usually stabilize and check floorboards before installing a tub? I renovated because of water leakage and I know the floorboards had lots of water staining and pitting. But what puzzles me is why this only happens in the new bathroom and not the old one. The floor outside the bathroom does creak when someone heads down the stairs. After some diagnosing, and adding foam around the base of the tub, the contractor now thinks something with the floorboards is causing this. (This never occurred with the old bathroom). It is like a super loud elastic band that can be heard anywhere in the three floor townhouse. Now there is a loud popping sound coming from the fibreglass bathtub every few minutes, up to three hours after it is used.
